Description:
Our charge was to uncover the story of a historic building turned 50-room boutique hotel and capture the spirit of the city it stands in: Louisville, Kentucky.
Our team began by researching historical archives and scouring antique stores. We discovered the building had many incarnations but agreed that the origin story was the most authentic.
This story centered around J.B. Wilder—a lifelong Louisvillian and purveyor of medicinal bourbon bitters—who commissioned the structure in 1883.

This story centered around J.B. Wilder—a lifelong Louisvillian and purveyor of medicinal bourbon bitters—who commissioned the structure in 1883.
The plan for the brand identity was to evoke this layered history of the building through locally inspired details. We created hand-drawn illustrations inspired by nature and themes unique to the state. Typography and layout were styled to reflect the limited print processes of the 1800s. The color palette was inspired by the waterfront park that lines the Ohio River just a block north of the hotel.
